April begins with English Tourism Week, so why not be a tourist in your own city? Take a look at Visit Bradford’s website for a reminder of all that Bradford has to offer from the City of Film, its many museums and galleries, glorious countryside, country pubs and curries. Below is my own take on the best of what’s on this month in Bradford:
- Q&A with Bradford born actor and director Enzo Cilenti of Game of Thrones and Luther fame as part of Bradford City of Film’s 10th year anniversary programme. Thursday 4 April at 6pm.
- Putting the hip into Shipley, don’t miss Bradfordian artist Pilfered’s exhibition at Tambourine Coffee, 38 Bradford Road, Saltaire throughout April.
- Regular storytelling night with Tenx9 Bradford on the theme of “fool”. Nine people tell a real story from their lives for ten minutes. Contact the organisers to take part or just go along for a listen. 5 April from 7pm at Speakers Corner, 4 Ivegate.
- This is not just a play, this is an M&S play. Dressed in Time tells the story of Marks & Spencers, fashion and shopping featuring original clothing from the 1930s-70s. 6 April, The Studio at 2pm.
- Haworth Artisan Food and Drink Market with local food producers on Saturday 6 April 11am-4pm.
- Bradford’s Victorian Photographers find out more about Bradford’s photographic history from studio photographs, film making and x-rays at Undercliffe Cemetery, Saturday 6 April 11am-12.30pm
- Lots on at Bradford Cathedral this month from the regular faith trail, a mindfulness course, bell ringing, concerts and a bring and share lunch.
- Watch Gillian Anderson and Lily James in the current West End version of All About Eve as part of National Theatre Live at the Picturehouse Cinema on Thursday, 11 April at 7pm.
- Are you a coffee lover? Bradford coffee roasters Casa Espresso are holding a barista training session for professionals and enthusiasts on 12 April.
- Sketching classes for adults ‘Hunting and Gathering’ at Cliffe Castle 12 April. All materials provided, beginners welcome 10am-2pm.
- Saltaire celebrates its 46th Day of Dance, Saturday 13 April with 32 dance classes throughout the day including Charleston, swing, circle, street and clog dancing. All workshops are suitable for beginners and no need for a partner.
- Roberts Park Sundowner Event market stalls, street food, Easter egg hunt, music, performances and lantern parade. Saturday 20 April from 5pm-9pm.
- Do you have any film of Bradford that you would like to share? Pop into Bradford Life on Film for a chat. Tuesday 23 April 11am-2pm at Bradford City Library, Centenary Square.
- Movie sound effects workshop Wednesday 24 April 11am-12pm and 2pm-3pm, City Library, Centenary Square.
- Emily’s – The Bronte Birthplace in Thornton will be hosting a Greek themed tapas night on Saturday 27 April, from 6.30pm. Be sure to book as it’s very cosy.
- The 8th Annual Haworth Beer Festival takes place over the weekend 26-28 April with over 35 real ales and some special cocktails too.
- Sonia Sandhu’s South Indian vegan feast at Bread + Roses cafe on North Parade on Saturday 27 April 6pm-9pm. Be sure to book.
- Keighley Bus Museum Open Day 28 April from 10am with free bus rides between Keighley city centre, East Riddlesden Hall and Ingrow train station.
