As for taking the girl out of Bradford, I saw Clio Barnard’s film The Arbor at the Casa Del Cinema last week. Something very strange about sitting in a cinema in the Villa Borghese whilst watching the council houses of Buttershaw estate appear on the screen. Very strange to hear people speaking just like me. I think that my Bratford accent is definitely having a revival. I was possibly the only one in the cinema hiding my face behind my hands throughout, either through fear of what was coming next or to stifle giggles (the humour didn’t really translate…) The film, a recommendation by the wonder that is my friend John, was depressing, entertaining and inspiring at the same time. Definitely one to watch for those who say, “Well, we’re all middle class now, aren’t we?”
